The absolute pure joy that Meghan & Mikey experienced on their wedding day is exactly the way a couple should experience the day. These two often have smiles on a regular day, so you can imagine the huge grins we saw on this day in particular. The love they have for each other is so honest and palpable – it's just wonderful to witness.
Meghan is another one of my MDs that I met through a motherless daughters group in the Boston area. She's the fourth girl from that group that I've had the honor to photograph on her wedding day. There have been other brides and grooms who I've later learned have lost a parent before their wedding. Obviously this is something that I connect with personally, but there is something special about sharing that connection with my couples. A wedding day is about you and the person you're marrying, of course, but it's also about a new extended family coming together. When one person is missing out on sharing the joy with you it can be difficult to deal with at certain times of the day. My hope is that I can be of some comfort in just my understanding of how that feels.
I also like to see how each couple incorporates those family members who are no longer around into their day. Meghan chose to have a photo of her mom near her during the ceremony, which took place at Harkness State Park on a gorgeous day (and yet another day that was forecasted for rain). The ceremony was emotional and filled with tears, which everyone knows by now, I just love.
After the ceremony we got to take Meghan & Mikey's new ride for a spin. Meghan's dad restored a Plymouth Fury for them as a wedding gift! What an awesome wedding present! Meghan's dad even incorporated a few Red Sox themed details for his Red Sox fan daughter and Yankees fan new son-in-law. Love it! The day was very sunny, so we drove down the road looking for a perfectly shady spot to take some photos. I spied the perfect driveway and decided I'd rather ask for forgiveness than permission in this case. And who wouldn't lend their driveway to a bride and groom on their wedding day? Luckily Mike had no problem with us using his land, as long as he got to check out the car a bit.
And then it was off to the reception where the celebrating really began!
Congratulations, Meghan & Mikey!!
