This weekend Peter & I were guests at a wedding! I love being a guest at a wedding. This was actually the first wedding we've been to (as guests) following our own, which made it even more fun.
Our friends were married on a family farm in New Hampshire. Over the last year they visited almost every weekend to get the farm ready for a wedding. Their families visited and helped them pull weeds and vines and relocate lilies, hosta and ferns. They made the property beautiful. The barn was cleared of things-you-normally-find-in-a-barn to make way for dancing.
We visited a few weeks ago to help do some last minute things. Our work was mostly fun stuff – painting signs, putting together their escort cards, and hanging lights in the barn to dance under.
Those lights though, they ended up being the lights they were married under as well. You see – it rained on Saturday. Well, it actually poured – torrentially at times with a bit of thunder and lightning mixed in for good measure. Everyone made their way across the property under shared umbrellas – and our friends were married in a barn. It was a beautiful and perfect ceremony. It's the way it happened, and I can't imagine it going any other way now. As Doug said, "It's funny how so much can go wrong yet still go so right."
The rain did stop and we were able to have dinner outside under a tent – and then we headed back down to the barn for dancing. My favorite part. I danced until I was a sweaty mess and loved every moment.
The song that will always get me on the dance floor (you know, besides "Hey Ya" by Outkast) is "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" by Michael Jackson. I suggest pressing play and dancing right now. Go Ahead!
